Little Brother's Garden

My grandfather was known for his love of gardening. He passed his passion on to my mother and a few weekends ago when visiting her house I went into her backyard to find that this same passion had passed through her into someone I never would have suspected- my 22 year old little brother. We ALWAYS had a garden growing up, but due to many factors it has sat unattended the last several summers. Well, I guess Dallas decided he was ready for a change. I found him down in the garden that afternoon plucking up the weeds that had popped up amongst his tiny sprouts. To see him weeding all alone was a vision all in itself, but before the weeding had come the prepping of the soil and the planting of the seeds and he had done all of that too. Not because he was told to, but because he chose to. I was so very humbled and impressed by him. I could not have been more proud. My little brother. He says he'll be OK if his garden ends up 'failing', but he does it anyway because it is therapeutic and rewarding for him to see the 'fruits of his labor'. I personally think his garden is going to do just fine, but in the end what really matters is the growth that has so obviously already come about, and that is in Dallas himself.

Jess,
You should post this on the family page. For those that don't read the blog.
