The Real Zoo
My nephew Gabe is so funny. Here in Logan we don't have a 'real' zoo, but we do have the Willow Park Zoo which has all sorts of native birds, mammals and...well, a few monkeys. Ali has taken Gabe there a few times in the past few weeks and he absolutely loves it. He would always ask, "Do you want to go to the zoo with us?" regardless of whether a trip had been planned or not. I just love this kid. With the Olson family moving in a few months we decided we had better take Gabe to the 'real' zoo down in SLC, the Hogle Zoo. A few days before the trip my mom was talking to Gabe on the phone and she asked him, "Are you excited to go to the Zoo?" "Ya!" Gabe said. "Are you excited to see the elephants at the Zoo?" Grandma asked. "There are no elephants at the zoo Grandma." He said with exactness. "Sure there are. And are you excited to see the giraffes?" "There are no giraffes at the zoo Grandma!" Gabe had been to the 'zoo' and he knew what was there and what wasn't and elephants and giraffes were not some of them. This being the background, I pretty much couldn't wait to take him to the 'real' zoo in SLC. After several weeks of waiting we finally made our way to Hogle Zoo and we had a great time. The only thing that made the real zoo even better was that Jai, Rachel and Sidney (Gabe's favorite other 'little person') joined us:)
