The Break-In

Blogspots are for keeping everyone up-to-date right? I guess it seems a little funny to post such a crumby event for our very first 'post'...but it just so happens to be our most recent of current events, so I figure its gotta be posted.
To make it brief (which I'm sure I'll end up failing miserably at) last night after our family Thanksgiving dinner Sean and I returned to our car to find it had been ransacked. The perpetrators took ZERO precautions to keep their activities on the down-low as the contents which were once in our glove compartment and mini door pockets where now strewn EVERYWHERE, and our back door and trunk were sitting open. They didn't clean us out completely, they just took the important things like our rock climbing bag, our weekend bag purchased from out-of-reach Vietnam (I don't think we'll be replacing that anytime soon), my toiletry bag, my coat and our scriptures.
People have been saying all day, 'you must feel so violated'. I suppose we do feel a little bit of that, but more than that we're pretty much just ticked off that someone stole all our special junk and by now it's likely that they've realized they can't get any $ for it and have tossed it in some slimy SLC dumpster. On a more uplifting note I also feel sorry for the perps...sorry that this is how they think they have to live. This morning I read Alma 17 and it was perfect for me. It reminded me that one of our huge responsibilities in this life is to help each other remember who we are and why we are here and that fact will never change, not even when large numbers of us choose to do bad things...including, but not limited to: murdering and plundering the Nephites and breaking into Sean and Jessie's Honda-Rocky and stealing large quantities of their very cheap, overly sentimental personal items. The End.

For those of you who have yet to be thieved, here are a few helpful tips:
1- Theft insurance provided by your car insurance is only there to cover the costs of damages done to the car itself, not to pay for stolen goods. We were told our stolen goods would be covered if we had Home Owners insurance.
2- Locking your doors doesn't keep them out so don't rely on it. The safest route to keep your junk safe is to not keep any of it in your car.
